Where I'm Going

As I promised my family, here's a picture to illustrate where I'll be spending my first month and a half in Korea.  Goesan is about a three hour bus ride south of Seoul.  The university where I'll be staying during Orientation is Kangwon National University, which has about 20,000 students, all of whom I imagine will be attending classes during this time, since we are arriving in the middle of the school year.  I suppose I'll be finding out pretty soon, since I'm leaving in just a few days!
* Oops!  I originally wrote this post under the assumption that I was going to Chuncheon, as this was the old orientation site.  But no, I am in beautiful Goesan, and I certainly have no complaints.

Letters and Other Tastes of Home

"The one good thing about not seeing you is that I can write you letters." -Svetlana Alliluyeva

If anyone would like to repay me in kind, I can be reached at the following address from July 1st to August 18th.  Remember that mail can take about two weeks to reach me in Korea, and it may not be forwarded to me after I leave for my teaching post, so if you want to send me mail in August it might be better to hold on to it and send it to my final address, which I will post once I know it myself.

Getting mail while I'm overseas is always a huge treat and has even helped me to share bits of American culture with other students.  Marshmallow Peeps were a huge hit at an intercultural Easter brunch in Holland (one Greek girl refused to try one, saying they were too cute to be eaten), and I saved the lemonaid mix from a thoughtful care package to contribute for a 4th of July celebration.
If you'd like to receive postcards from me during the year, make sure that I have your current address!  Send me an e-mail at gordon.elise@gmail.com.  Only nine more days!
