And So It Begins

Yesterday, I received a call informing me that the Fulbright program in South Korea had acquired extra funding, and as a result I was being pushed from an alternate candidate to an accepted one.  I think I'm still in shock about the whole thing.  To be perfectly honest, I had given up all hope on my Fulbright dreams.  I had accepted a teaching job next year in China (they were very understanding and wished me well).  I was preparing to learn Mandarin, not Korean.  I had made so many plans with the thought that I would be in the United States until late August, and now I'll be scrambling to be ready to fly to Asia at the beginning of July.  But I wouldn't have it any other way.  I never wanted anything the way that I wanted to receive a Fulbright to South Korea, and since I owe so much to the various teachers and friends that helped me on the way, I will be keeping this blog (no firewall in Korea!) so that everyone can keep up with my newest crazy adventure.  And perhaps I will provide some useful information for next year's redheaded optimist with a penchant for Korean television, eh?
